Interesting Pet Products
As I was surfing the net I came across a product called Poop Freeze. It freezes your pet's poop so you can more easily pick it up and dispose of it. Very interesting idea! Have you seen any interesting pet products??

I Am Going to Find a Home for Him!
Written by Hillary O. (orignally published here)
That is what I said 2 years ago when I started fostering a 3 week old kitten that someone had brought into the clinic. He had been found in the woods with no sign of a mother nearby a good samaritan picked him up and brought him in.
He was skinny and a little dehydrated with a sore on his forehead. We rehydrated him and started him on Kitten formula. His sore turned out to be a warble (fly larvae that burrows under the skin). Once removed the sore healed quickly.
Since he was to young to eat on his own I bottle fed him and took him home so he could get 1:00am feeding. I wouldn't name him since he was going to go to another home, but he went home with me every night. He was a feisty kitten. When ever I fed him he would just fight with the bottle. I had to trim his nails so he wouldn't completely shred my hands. It was really kind of sad he would just get so frustrated. After bottle feeding him for a couple of weeks I tried to get him to drink out of a dish or eat a little canned kitten food. He refused both. I think I bottle fed him till he was about 8 weeks old.
After I had him for 3-4 weeks I did name him "Sirus" . I still said that I was going to find a home for him, and to prove it I put up a poster and put his picture on an adoption website. I didn't have any inquiries about him. I don't know why. But I do know that I was getting more and More attatched.
I eventually started leaving him at home once I didn't have to bottle feed him during the day, but I still said I would bring him in for people to see if somebody was interested. Still no inquiries.
Needless to say Sirus still lives with me, and has found his forever home. He is my shoulder cat and will leap up on them any chance he get.

Costumes for people.
Have you decided what you are going to be for Halloween yet? Do you plan to dress up? Getting all dressed up is one of my favorite parts of the Halloween holiday. It's always fun to come up with an idea of what to do, and then to find costuming for it. This year, I think I may be a NINJA!
Why? Well, ninjas are pretty cool right now. And even though they are really cool right now, I don't think anyone else is planning to dress up like one, at least not anyone that I know. And isn't having an original costume part of the fun?
I have been looking around online and found a site with ninja costumes. Their prices are really good, even the shipping is a nice low price (2.95). The costumes come with everything that you would need to be an excellent ninja. They even have the slippers and socks!
It's too bad they don't have ninja costumes for dogs, wouldn't it be fun to dress up your pup as a ninja with you? I think it would be a lot of fun, and I bet you would win best costume at any party you went to. Yes, I think being a ninja is my costume of choice for the year!

News!
I have a new shop! The proceeds from the shop go directly to my animal rescue website. It is undergoing a major reconstruction right now, the old pages are still up of course, but there are exciting things in the works for that site. This shop is just one of the fun additions.
The products are things that I know and love, and although they aren't always going to be animal related, shopping through the links does help animal rescue. :) So, if you need to start your Christmas shopping early, I would love to have you shop through my store. I have also added the link on my sidebar.
Check it out, won't you?

Pets and Halloween
It's an importan reminder to keep an eye on your pets around Halloween. There are people out there who steal pets at this time of year for horrible reasons. Please keep a close eye on your pets, especially if they are outdoors.
On a happier note, who dresses up their pets for Halloween? There are tons of fun costumes for dogs, and it looks like there are more added every year!

Have you visited?
You may be aware of PayPerPost. Maybe not. It's not animal related, but sometimes they act a little like animals (monkeys maybe?)! Well, if you don't know what it is, it is a way for companies to advertise on blogs, and a way for bloggers to make money by posting about products, sites, and the like. The fun part is that they also have a blog, and a fairly active community of bloggers. If you haven't visted yet, you should go check it out. Not only is it a good way to raise extra money for whatever you need (for charity or for yourself), it's also a good way to find bloggers that you may not know about yet.
It's also pretty interesting from the business side of things. It's amazing what has been going on with this site, which you can read all about on the blog. It's growing like mad, and looks like it will just keep getting better and better!

College from home!
Capella University is an online college that has been around since 1993. They offer graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, human services, and psychology. They also offer bachelor’s degrees in business and information technology.
What a neat way to get your education, from the comfort of your own home! I have always wanted to go to school online, it just seems so convient, and it would fit into any schedual. Capella has certianly been around long enough to know the best ways to offer this kind of education to their students.

Love to craft and love animals?
The Snuggles Project is for you then! Please visit their site and learn more about making blankets for shelter animals. They need whatever comfort they can get, and this is a wonderful project that is giving them that very comfort they so desperatly need.
Pet Therapy
I know that pets can be great therapists! In fact, when my father had his stroke, getting a puppy was the turning point for his recovery... she brought his laugh back. Pets are used for therapy in many situations, some are even specially trained just for the job. What a great job that would be too!

Animal Precinct
There is a show on Animal Planet called Animal Precinct. It is all about the special law enforcment people who work on behalf of abused animals. If you are tender hearted like me, it is extremely difficult to watch. It's just so hard to believe the cruelty of some people, like today's program where a woman put newborn puppies into a trash can because she didn't want to deal with them. I usually can't watch the show because it makes me both sad and angry, but I am so grateful that there are people who care and who are working on behalf of animals. You can learn more about there work and how to help by clicking here.

Sad news...
I'm sure that you have already heard about Steve Irwin. I just heard the news, and I have to say that I feel sad about it. He was one of those people that just don't come along often in the world. He was passionate about life and so entusiastic about everything he did. I'm sad that his vibrant energy and lust for living is gone from our planet.

Way to go Gov!
"Puppy mills are large-scale commercial dog breeding operations where profit is given a higher priority than the well-being of dogs.
The health of the dogs is disregarded in order to maintain a low overhead and maximize profit. The female dogs are housed in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions often times without adequate food, water, veterinary care or socialization. They are caged their entire lives and bred at every opportunity until they are no longer physically able to reproduce. After the dogs are no longer profitable they are commonly killed or abandoned. " (Exerpt from Care2.com)
Luckily Pennsylvania’s Governor Edward G. Rendell is doing something to stop this sad and inhumane practice in his state. You can thank the good Governer by clicking here and adding your name to the list.

Home Improvement
As you know I am a big fan of home improvement and decorating my house. I love to do it myself too, and make it personal. I just found out about a new blog that is all about home improvement, home trends and Home Improvement Ideas. It is a really nice site, since they have photos and new ideas every day.
One of the coolest things on there has got to be the hot tub refridgerator! Oh what a perfectly lovely idea. I love getting in the hot tub, and hope to have one some day soon at our home, but there has always been the issue of getting thirsty and either having to get out and get something, or just bringing something out with out. In the winter you drink stays cool, but in the summer there are bugs, and it can get really warm. So, I have to say that I just love the idea of a fridge for the hot tub!
They have a lot of really cool things on the blog actually, you will have to go to see them all. So, if you like to see interesting, and sometimes even a little over the top, ideas for your home you should check out the blog.

Yes, it's real!
You may have heard about a website that offers to pay you for posting on your blog. It sounds too good to be true, but it is true! I have been paid already, over $100, with another $100 on the way. It works because advertisers pay for exposure on your blog, and in turn you get money for blog advertising.
It's a great way to make extra money doing what you already love. My big plans with the money I have made, and all the future money that I make, is to pay down our credit card debts. The faster we are out of debt, the more fun we can have! It is a perfect site for me because I can do it in my spare time, and make a nice little side income from it. Many of the offers pay $5, $10, or even more, so it can add up really fast. The nice thing is that they have offers all the time, so unlike other sites, you can really make money each day.
If you are looking for a way to make money blogging, this is a real, legitimate site. You should check it out!

Make your own! :)
Have you seen the cute animal goodies at Cafepress? If you can't find what you are looking for, you can always make your own designs to sell.
It's a quick and easy way to make a little extra money for your rescue, to make team shirts for your volunteers, and even buttons! You can also make postcards, and many other items. The great part is that it is completely free unless you order a product, and of course you have a chance to make money as well. Check it out if you are looking for a fun new thing to add to your rescue group. :)

Back to cool!
If there is one thing that I like a lot it's office supplies! Not only do I enjoy getting organized, but there is just something fun about finding the perfect piece of furnature, or the perfect accessory, for your office. This site has one of the biggest selections of School Furniture that I have seen online. They have everything you could think of, and even things that you have forgotten. They offer everything from bookcases, chairs, and desks, to coatracks, hampers and even drafting tables.
They have a great selection for all the back to school items you could need, no matter what age. They have things for college, and even for young kids. It looks like a great site for teachers who are getting their classrooms ready because they even have activity tables and lockers, and student desks.

Keep your pets cool.
Shed Ender is a good way to help your pets beat the heat this summer. Since this recent heat wave, it's good to pay special attention to keeping your pets as cool as possible. The shed ender is designed to remove the undercoat of your pet (cats and dogs) to help keep it cooler, and also to keep shedding to a minimum. So, if you have shedding problems, or just what to keep your friend cool in all this heat, you should give the shed ender a try.

Keep cool.
Don't forget, we aren't the only ones feeling the heat in this heat wave! Do what you can to make things comfortable for your animals. Don't leave them in a car, and don't leave them outside without shade and plenty of water.
It's been awhile since I have posted animal related news. Mainly because I have been so busy trying to find ways to earn money online, and working on our debt reduction plan. However, I just found a very neat site, and a way to keep all my tips in one place. Here are all my tips about getting out of debt and making money online. Maybe now I can get back to what is really supposed to be going on here, animals!

Gifts for animal lovers
This site has really cute gift ideas, and Same Day Gift Baskets. They are a family owned business, and have been in business since 1940. I think it's great to support family businesses, especially in the day and age of big box stores. They also have tons of cute gifts for any kind of occasion. They even have cute pet lover gifts!! You should check it out if you need a nice gift, and need it quickly.
Not animal related, but still good.
I hadn't even heard about this, but apparently simmons jannace & stagg represented a paraolympian named Nancy Burpee. She was disqualified on a technicality during the trails, and because of the lawsuit it was discovered that the United States Paralympic swim trials were not held in accordance with the paralympic rules. It is suspected also that the Australian judge had something to do with her disqualification not being on the level.
The good news is that she is going to be able to compete in the World Champions, even though she lost the case and was not put back on the team. Good for her for standing up for what she thought was right! It just goes to show that you should always stand up for what you believe in. Sometimes you might also need a little help, but it's always worth doing.

Invest in real money
As you know, we are working hard to get out of debt and then start investing and growing money for our future. It's not been an easy thing to do, but we sure are learning a lot of new things!
We have been thinking about investing in real money, like silver. The main reason is because real money holds it's value, unlike our paper money. Monex, a real money broker, has the experience, expertise and resources to make investments like this a bit easier. They offer gold, silver, platinum and palladium bullion and bullion coins.
I don't know really what the best way to go is, as I still need to research a lot more, but it's an interesting idea. It seems like a good way to add to the diversity of you portfollio. There's still a lot more that I need to learn about it, have any of you done this before?

Good qoutes!
I have been looking for a place to find good qoutes about money, frugality, and living life to the fullest. I enjoy hearing another person's point of view about things, and it often give me a new insight on the subject. I have also noticed that a lot more people are including great qoutes in their blog posts, which made me even more curious to find a site that had inspirational qoutes. http://www.onlinediscountmart.com/quotable-quotes.html has a lot of qoutes! I was really liked the way they have everything in catagories too, it makes it a lot easier and faster to find what you are looking for. Here is one that totally relates to getting out of debt, “The best way out of a problem is through it.” Anonymous! Seriously, that good old Anonymous sure is full of great thoughts, don't you think? Anyway, if you need to find great qoutes be sure to visit the site.

Things happen
Sometimes, even despite all your efforts, things happen. Debt can happen, be it because of medical bills for pets, or just bad planning. If you are deep in debt, have you ever thought about using debt consolidation programs or loans? It is very important to learn all the facts first before you do something. Home equity loans can bring tax breaks, but it also puts your home on the line. If you don't curb your spending there is a great risk in doing a home equity loan. There may be other loans you could get to consolidate at a lower rate, without a tax break, but at least your home isn't on the line. Bankruptcy should only be considered as a last resort, although there are times when it makes sense (like the woman who was 150,000 in credit and loan debt!). Overall, the best way to get out of debt is to stop going into debt in the first place!

Good, sound advice!
GEICO known for it's adorable gecko, and online car insurance rate qoutes has very good advice on keeping your car safe.
1) Keep your vehicle locked at all times, even while driving. Close all windows and sunroofs, no matter how hot it is.
2) Never leave your keys in the car.
3) If possible, park in busy, well-lit areas. Thieves prefer to work in the dark. Leave your car in park or in gear with the wheels turned toward the curb or some other obstruction, so thieves won't be able to tow it easily.
4) Avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle where passersby can see them.
5) Install an anti-theft system in your vehicle if it doesn't have one.
6) Beware of the "bump-and-rob" technique. Carjackers bump your car from the rear, then steal it when you get out to look for damage. When stopped at a traffic light, leave room to maneuver around the vehicle ahead if you need to. If another car bumps yours and you feel threatened, drive to a populated area. If you have a cell phone, call the police for assistance.
7) Do not leave registration or title in the car. Too often a car thief is pulled over and gets away from the police because he or she can produce the auto registration. If multiple drivers use the vehicle, the best suggestion would be to hide the registration in a secret location that only the owners know.
8) Look around. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in garages, parking lots and gas stations.
9) Know where you're going. Avoid known high-crime areas even if the alternate route takes a little longer.
10) If confronted by a carjacker, do not resist. Cars can be replaced; you can't.
11) Have your car's vehicle identification number (VIN) etched on each of the windows. Car thieves want to get off cheap. They don't want to go to the expense of replacing all the glass.
I just thought that these were all good and important tips. It doesn't matter where you live, stuff like this happens too often. It's better to be safe than sorry! If you've ever had to be without your car for awhile you know what an pain that can be. Protect it and yourself. :)

Going somewhere?
If you are going to Florida, you might consider an Orlando Vacation Home Rental. Why Florida? Well, besides the obvious DisneyWorld there are other fun things to do, and renting a house can save on food (since you can buy your own to make in the house), which can leave extra for doing more. White sandy beaches, year round sunshine, the Everglades... so much to do!
But not only that, you can possibly take your pet with you! Although there are hotels that allow pets, most still do not. This makes a vacation home a good option. Sure, there's no room service, but being able to have your pet with you beats that hands down!

Those chatty prarie dogs!
Prarie dogs like to talk! And, it turns out that sometimes, they talk about us humans. Not only do they know what to call us, but they also descibe us as short or tall, and what color we might be wearing at the time. They also come up with words for new things that they haven't seen before. Amazing!

No Pet Left Behind
People were forced to make an awful choice during Hurrican Katrina, a choice of leaving their pet behind in order to be saved. Many people did not leave without their beloved pets and stayed in the ravished areas. Some even died rather than leave their pet behind. Pets are like family members, no one should have to make a choice like this again.

Way to go!
When I saw this cute story about a group of LDS knitters making sweaters for penguins I couldn't believe my eyes! There is a very good reason for them doing this work, namely to keep the little guys warm and help prevent them from eating the oil from their feathers.
Turns out the sweaters are doing a mighty fine job of helping the pint sized penguins!

Mollywood Rocks!
I love Mollywood. They are a rescue dedicated to exotic birds. Most people do not realize how much time is needed to properly care for these amazing animals. They are so very intelligent, they really need a person who can give them plenty of time, attention, and challenging things to do. They help place those who can go to loving homes, but they also provide lifetime sanctuary to those birds who have been abused too much to return or thrive in a family enviroment.
Birds seem to be one of the forgotten animals when it comes to rescue. Gratefully they are not forgotten to those who love them!

Best Friends
Best Friends has got to be one of my favorite animal welfare organizations. They are one of the big ones too, and located right in my home state of Utah.
I would encourage you all to get involved with them in some way. They have a lovely website with inspirational stories of animals overcoming great odds. They helped with the Katrina pet rescue, and the great bunny rescue, just to name a few. They are also the ones behind No More Homeless Pets. Donate and you will recieve their magazine, which is full of great stories, news, and photos.
You can even visit the sanctuary in Angel Canyon and see the animals.

Ferrets!!
I used to have a pet ferret, so I can tell you from experience that they are a bundle of fun. They are full of personality, mischevious, and when they want to be snuggled they are good at that too. They are among many small animals that need to find good homes, it's not just cats and dogs you know! ;)
Ferret-Fact is a great organization dedicated to ferret rescue, and also long term care of ferrets. They also provide a lot of information to owners about how to care for ferrets. I was especially grateful to them for the help they provided me at the end of my ferret's life, he loved their gruel recipe!
If you are considering adding a ferret to your family, be sure to check rescues first. Also make sure they are legal in your town, in many cities owning a ferret is against the law.

Seriously Cute
Trixie and Peanut has some seriously cute stuff for your furry friend. Just look at these cute polo shirts:
I realize that not all dogs are hip to dressing up, but all pets deserve to be spoiled, and this site has a lot of fun products to help you do just that.

Happy Endings...
One of the best things to see are stories with happy endings for rescue animals. Zeeta, a chinese crested, has a happy story to tell. She found a happy home thanks to the hardworking folks at Hope's Haven. They are a rescue group that is dedicated to cresteds and other hairless breeds. Visit their site to see the dogs that still need forever homes.

Art with heart
Painting 4 Paws is a great way to get a pet portrait. The artist, Karen Derrico, donates a portion of the commission fee to animal welfare and rescue groups. She not only does commissioned work, but there are paintings up for "adoption" as well. I really like this one:
So if you are looking for a unique gift for an animal lover, or you just want a special way to remember your animal friend, take a look at Painting 4 Paws!

Bunnies Galore!
This is a shocker... 1000 bunnies and counting. All from the same backyard!
They are looking for homes that would be able to take in at least 10 bunnies. The buns are all used to living outside and would be outside pets. They are even willing to come and set up the area for you, making it really easy to adopt if you are able. I wish that we could!

Katrina, Mardi Gras... and pets
It's good to see the return of some normalcy to the New Orleans area. Hopefully this Mardi Gras celebration will be the start of many good things to come. However, there is still a lot to be done on behalf of the pets affected by hurricane Katrina.
Did you know that there was a Mardi Gras parade dedicated to the pets? The Barkus Parade, which was held on the 19th, was all about dogs, and what fun it was! I wish that I could have been there myself.
You can find out more about Katrina pets, and what you can do to help, by visiting Best Friends.

Cute clothes, Great cause!
Wildlife Works is one of my favorite places to shop for shirts. Why? Because not only are they super cute, but part of their profits goes towards wildlife conservation while also giving jobs to those who live in conservation areas. The ones that I live in are the Do Something shirt, which helps protect baby seals, and the Green Girl shirt which protects all wildlife and habitat.
Even celebs love Wildlife Works!
Check it out the next time you need new duds! You'll be doing yourself, and the animals, a favor! :)

Donate your discs!
Discs for Dogs is a great way to get rid of old cd's and dvd's that you are tired of. They use them to raise funds for the SPCA by selling the discs for a dollar a piece.
Not only is it great way to keep more junk out of the landfills because they take discs in any condition, but it helps dogs too! :)

Bosworth!
Kristine writes:
"My husband and I adopted our second dog, Bosworth, from an animal rescue here in Michigan. He's a big black dog (who really did look smaller in the rescue!) - who are often the most difficult to place. He came to us scared of everything, and not even knowing how to play. Three years later, he's still scared of thunder, fireworks, and the vacuum, but has really blossomed."
Another happy ending!

Coco the kitten
Meighan just rescued a kitty from the SPCA animal shelter two weeks ago.
She writes "Her name is Coco and she's about a year old but very small, the vet says because she was neglected and starved as a kitten. Very sad but she's a very sweet and healthy cat aside from her size and has so much love to give!! She loves to cuddle and purr in my lap. She also loves to play with all of the cat toys I have bought for my other cat Smudge, which he never played with. She gets along great with Smudge, which is awesome because he seemed lonely before. I had a harness and leash for him, but he refused to ever walk with it on, Coco on the other hand has no problem with the harness and is happy to go for a walk with it on.
I could have gotten a kitten, but I feel better about rescuing a shelter animal, because especially with cats there are so many unwanted cats out there."
For the love of Fish!
Did you know that fish need rescuing too? There are times when fish are in need of good homes, just like other animals. And, if you have fish, did you know that you can teach them tricks? Check out the Fish School website! What a fun idea.

Single pet?
Consider getting your pet a friend for Valentines day. With so many wonderful pets just waiting to be rescued, it shouldn't be too hard to find a friend for your single pet.
Just look at this couple:
The Bunny Bunch suggests that you bring along your single pet to adoption events. And since February is adopt a bunny month, there couldn't be a better time to consider getting your pet a friend. Just remember to spay/neuter!

Rescue a Bunny
February is bunny rescue month.
There are a lot of bunnies in need of good homes. I haven't had a rabbit myself because of allergies, however, some of my friends have had pet rabbits in their homes. Did you know that you can litter box train them? They are more intellegent than people think.
Petfinder has a wonderful search engine that links to all the rescue groups. You can search with your zip code as well, allowing you to bring up animals in your area.

Choose Rescue First
There are so many good animals just waiting for homes. Aimee's Animals is the website that I run to help promote animal rescue. It is a free site where you can look to find rescue groups in your area, and where rescue groups can list their link for free.
I made the site to help rescue groups gain more traffic, and hopefully, to help animals find forever homes. If you are looking to adopt a new friend, think rescue first and give an animal a chance for a happily ever after.
